Refresher Driving Lessons

Back behind the wheel
with confidence

Been off the road for a while? Whether it's been months or decades, our DVSA-approved instructors will help you rebuild your skills and confidence at your own pace — no judgement, no pressure.

Why people book refresher lessons

There's no wrong reason to want a refresher. Here are the most common ones we hear.

Been off the road for years

Life gets in the way. Whether it's been 2 years or 20, a refresher course will bring your skills back up to standard quickly.

Anxiety or loss of confidence

An accident, a near-miss or simply a long break can knock your confidence. Our patient instructors specialise in rebuilding it.

Returning after a ban

If you've had your licence revoked or suspended, a refresher course helps you return to the road safely and confidently.

New vehicle or road type

Switching from automatic to manual, moving to a larger vehicle, or driving in a new country — refresher lessons help you adapt.

Updating your knowledge

Highway Code changes, new road markings, smart motorways — the rules of the road evolve. Stay current with a refresher.

Pre-test top-up

If you've had lessons before but taken a break, a refresher gets you back to test standard without starting from scratch.

What to expect from your refresher

  1. 1

    Assessment lesson

Your first lesson is always an honest assessment. Your instructor will identify your strengths and any areas that need work — no judgement, just a clear picture of where you are.

  2. 2

    Tailored lesson plan

Based on your assessment, your instructor will put together a plan focused on exactly what you need. No wasted time on things you already do well.

  3. 3

    Progress at your pace

Refresher lessons are completely flexible. You decide how many you want and when to stop. There's no minimum commitment.

  4. 4

Back on the road with confidence

Most drivers feel significantly more confident after just a few lessons. The goal is to get you driving independently and safely — as quickly as possible.

Refresher lesson questions answered

How many refresher lessons will I need?
It depends entirely on how long you've been off the road and your current confidence level. Most drivers need between 3 and 10 lessons. Your instructor will assess your skills in the first lesson and give you a realistic estimate.
I passed my test years ago — do I need to retake it?
No. Once you hold a full UK driving licence, it doesn't expire (subject to medical requirements after age 70). You don't need to retake your test — refresher lessons simply bring your practical skills back up to standard.
I had an accident and feel very anxious about driving. Can you help?
Absolutely. Our instructors are experienced in working with anxious and nervous drivers. We'll go at your pace, build your confidence gradually and never push you beyond your comfort zone.
Can I have refresher lessons in an automatic car?
Yes. If you hold a full automatic licence, or simply prefer to refresh in an automatic, we have instructors who teach in automatic vehicles.
What will a refresher lesson cover?
Your first lesson will be an assessment — your instructor will identify any gaps or bad habits that have developed. Subsequent lessons focus on the areas you need most, whether that's junctions, roundabouts, parking, motorway driving or general confidence.
How much do refresher lessons cost?
Lesson rates are set by each individual instructor. You'll see their rate when you search by postcode. You pay a one-off £19.95 introduction fee to us — all lesson fees go directly to your instructor.
